In this project, we were given a murder case, and we had to determine who killed the victim, Carleton Comet. We were given several pieces of evidence; A murder weapon, a note, a timeline, DNA samples, hair samples, and blood samples.
Content
Throughout the course of this project, our group conducted a series of experiments in order to gather substantial evidence to support our claim. In the end, we were able to determine the killer to be Nancy Normal. We discovered this through the following:
- DNA fingerprinting: A technique used to make connections between biological evidence and a suspect in an investigation.
- Karyotyping: The method used to determine size, shape, and number of chromosomes.
- Comparing blood: We compared the different blood samples we were given to identify the blood types.
- Ink Chromatography: The process of separating materials from a mixture, and in this case ink is the mixture.
- Gel electrophoresis: Separation of molecules, such as protein or DNA, can be separated by size and electrical charge while in agarose gel.
- Pedigrees: Recorded ancestry of a person.
Reflection:
Looking back on this project, I learned that I need to express my ideas more. I wasn't generating any useful ideas pertaining to the project. I could also work on being more proactive, and working without being asked or told to do so. Some things I did well on this project were that I cooperated well with my team, and I was able to work efficiently during the labs. Overall, I believe that my team was successful in our endeavors on this project. We cooperated well, and we learned a lot. I look forward to doing more projects like this in the future.
